Advanced Studies

three professionals talkingThe Advanced Studies Course is designed for the seasoned chamber executive or staff member who has attended the Institute for Organization Management, The Center for Chamber of Commerce Excellence Program (CCCE) or a state-sponsored program. The advanced studies courses will focus on three topics critical to chambers of commerce.

Faculty for each three hour session is an experienced chamber executive who has been carefully selected for the topic they will be teaching.

Prerequisite to enrollment for Advanced Studies: Participant enrollment in the Advanced Studies Course is based on three (3) years on the job experience or completion of a Chamber of Commerce Basic or State Basic Class.

It is a perfect opportunity for the trained chamber professional who is seeking an easily accessible development experience with quality instruction at an affordable price. This program also gives you the opportunity to network with peers that have similar experience, background and challenges.

This course has been uniquely prepared for the chamber executive or staff member who has his/her “basics” out of the way and wants to discuss a topic of interest extensively with their peers. The role of the faculty member is twofold: 1) to instruct and 2) to lead extensive discussions probing the entire subject matter during the three hour period.

We are limiting the class size to ensure that there will be an opportunity for full participation among participants. For that reason, interest in registering for this course does not guarantee admission. Within one week of the receipt of your registration, you will be informed regarding your acceptance. If you are not accepted for participation in this session, your name will be placed on the alternate list, giving you first opportunity to fill any last minute cancellations, and your name is placed at the top of the list for the next year’s course.

Opportunity for Continued Participation

New Advanced Topics are offered each year! Participants are encouraged to enroll in these courses as a tool for their personal and professional development.

Three Courses Offered:

Business Advocacy
Building an effective business advocacy isn’t easy, but many chambers around the country have done it and are stronger for it. By the close of this session you will leave with the framework of how to build an effective advocacy team for your chamber.

You will discuss practical principals such as how to establish a legislative agenda, how to finance an advocacy program, how to communicate with elected officials and how to form coalitions.

Board Utilization
This course prepares a Chamber CEO and the Management Staff to utilize the Board of Directors to accomplish the stated goals of the Chamber. Through a series of internal and external reviews, the staff, through an involved Board of Directors, can prioritize projects and head toward the accomplishment of the most important goals.

Maximizing Technology – Blogs, Podcasts & More
There are no shortages of communications channels available, and chambers must develop a plan and focus for each channel as well as each initiative based on their program of work. The most successful chambers continue to use traditional outlets such as newspapers, magazines, radio, direct mail, email, speaking opportunities, and television – and supplement these efforts with carefully chosen and targeted New Media tools like blogs, podcasts, social networks, and v-casts. Learn how chambers have implemented these tools – and how you can do the same.
